Ethan McCarthy Bio:
A former journalist, Ethan came to IBM in 2000 on the heels of the dotcom bust to manage the internal and external web presence for IBM’s $6 billion/year research division. After two years in that role, he moved to IBM’s strategic communications team where he helped to co-author IBM’s groundbreaking social computing guidelines, contributed to the launch and popularization of the IBM intranet podcasting platform and worked on IBM’s award-winning annual report to shareholders. During the subsequent five years he served as the Editor in Chief of IBM’s global intranet, also known as w3, or the On Demand Workplace. In 2007, he also began managing IBM’s alumni relations effort, The Greater IBM Connection, a community that grew from a few thousand to more than 105,000 members during his tenure.
Ethan now leads IBM’s global digital and social strategy team responsible for driving the transformation of digital communications and marketing at IBM, leading the development of digital web services & prototyping digital/social programs, deploying digital social intelligence systems, and social business advocacy including the stewardship of IBM’s social computing guidelines. Additionally, Ethan was named a 2011 Social Media Star this year by the Social Media Society
Dan Woods bio:
Dan Woods is a seasoned CTO, author, speaker, and entrepreneur with experience in business, computer science, journalism, and publishing. Dan is CTO, Chief Editor/Analyst, and Founder of Evolved Media, a firm that offers content creation, editorial, and publishing services to information technology, financial, manufacturing, enterprise software, electronic gaming, and biotechnology companies. Dan pioneered the Communication By Design™ content development methodology, which enables rapid creation of high-quality content based on interviews with subject matter experts.
As an author, Dan has written or coauthored more than 20 books about business and technology, ranging from books about service-oriented architecture, open source, manufacturing, RFID, and wikis to the ideas driving the latest generation of enterprise applications, particularly in the face of Web 2.0's impact on the enterprise. Dan has written hundreds of white papers and conducted more than 1,000 interviews with experts in a variety of fields. He is also an invited speaker and moderator at international conferences.
As a CTO, Dan built technology for companies ranging from Time Inc. New Media to TheStreet.com. He has managed the product development cycle from initial requirements through sales for web sites and software products designed for the publishing and financial services industries. At TheStreet.com his systems supported the company's successful IPO and handled millions of daily page views while the number of subscribers tripled and new lines of business were launched. At CapitalThinking, Dan's software was purchased by the IT departments of large financial institutions including General Electric, JP Morgan Chase, and Citigroup.
Dan has an M.S. from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and a B.A. in Computer Science from the University of Michigan. Matt Dickman Bio:
Matt Dickman joined Weber Shandwick in December 2011 as EVP, Social Business Innovation. Working with global clients from his base in the agency's southwest office in Dallas. Matt has nearly 15 years of experience in social business, traditional digital, technology, and integrated marketing working with some of the world's most prominent brands including General Motors, Nestlé, AT&T, Visa and USAA.

Social Media Club is being organized for the purpose of sharing best practices, establishing ethics and standards, and promoting media literacy around the emerging area of Social Media. This is the beginning of a global conversation about building an organization and a community where the many diverse groups of people who care about social media can come together to discover, connect, share, and learn.
